Business purpose
MT195 (category 1) and MT295 (category 2) are both officially named 'Queries' — a general-purpose enquiry message requesting information or clarification on a previous message or transaction, covering many investigation subtypes (missing funds, wrong beneficiary, value-date correction, general clarification) largely via free text and query-type codes.
What does NOT map cleanly
One generic MT (195/295) fans out to at least three distinct, purpose-specific ISO messages depending on what the query is actually about: camt.026 (UnableToApply — a bank received funds but cannot apply them to the intended account), camt.027 (ClaimNonReceipt — tracing a payment the beneficiary claims never arrived), and camt.087 (RequestToModifyPayment — requesting correction of an element, such as value date, on a single prior payment; must never change currency; processed all-or-nothing). There is no single 1:1 successor. Separately, SWIFT's actual CBPR+-mandated migration path for MT195/295 investigation traffic routes through Case Management via two generic envelope messages, camt.110 (InvestigationRequest) and camt.111 (InvestigationResponse) — the messages carrying the hard CBPR+ deadlines. The precise structural relationship between the topical messages (camt.026/027/087) and the camt.110/111 envelope could not be confirmed from available sourcing during this compilation; treat that relationship as unconfirmed rather than assume the topical messages are simply nested inside Case Management. camt.029 (ResolutionOfInvestigation) answers camt.026/027/087 in the topical view, distinct from camt.111 answering camt.110 in the Case Management view.
Migration notes
SWIFT Case Management for exceptions and investigations launched November 2024. Mandatory ability to receive camt.110 applies from November 2026. Legacy MT195/295/196/296/199/299 for exceptions-and-investigations purposes are fully discontinued November 2027, after which send/receive must be exclusively camt.110/111 via Case Management.
